ケープワインとは

ケープワイン（Cape Wine）とは、欧米で日常に使われる、南アフリカワインのことです。日本では、「南アワイン」として定着した言葉ですが、当社では、ケープワインというキーワードを日本で定着させたく、この言葉を用いています。 

Cape Wine is a common term for South African wine in Europe and the USA. In Japan, the term has become established as 'South African Wine', but we are using this term because we want to establish the keyword 'Cape Wine' in Japan.  

強烈に印象に残る台地。今までに見たこともない不思議な気分にさせるワインランド。ブドウ畑を取り囲む原風景は、本当に吸い込まれるほど美しい。そんな南アフリカのワイン産地を、一度は訪れてみたいものです。

A plateau that makes a strong impression. Winelands that make you feel like you've never seen anything so magical. The wild landscapes surrounding the vineyards are so beautiful that they really suck you in. Such a South African wine region should be visited at least once.

アパルトヘイト撤廃後の1992年以降、本格的に世界進出を始めたばかりのワイン産地なので、「アフリカでワインが造られているの？」と疑問を抱かれることがあっても、それは仕方ないことかもしれません。しかしながら、ワイン鑑定家王国、イギリスをはじめとしたヨーロッパ諸国、特に、イギリス、ノルウェー、スウェーデンでは、他国産の輸入ワインをふくめ上位に占める割合の多い国でもあります。

As a wine region that has only begun to make serious inroads into the world since 1992, after the abolition of apartheid, some may ask: 'They make wine in Africa? However, it is also one of the top wine producing countries in the Kingdom of Wine Connoisseurs, the United Kingdom and other European countries, particularly the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden, including a large proportion of imported wines from other countries.

なぜ、ケープワインがイギリスで受けているかと考えると、ブランド力の根底にあるワインのテクスチュアが受け入れられたことを意味するのではないかと思います。こうした動きは、前述のベルギー、オランダ、デンマーク、スウェーデンと広がっており、ロンドン市内、近郊のデパート、スーパーマーケットには、ケープワインが非常に目立つほど陳列されており、驚いたのは、オックスフォードという保守的な町にさえ、同じように、目立つようにケープワインが置かれています。

If we consider why Cape wines are being embraced in the UK, it may mean that the texture of the wines, which is at the root of the brand's strength, has been accepted. This movement has spread to the aforementioned Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden, where Cape wines are prominently displayed in department stores and supermarkets in and around London, and, to my surprise, even in the conservative city of Oxford, where the same prominent Cape wine is placed.

その理由のひとつに、当社の輸入するワインのスタイルにあらわれるように、ケープワインには、比較的、欧州的テクスチュアのワインが多く見られると思います。今まで、ケープワインに触れる機会の少なかった我々としては、旧大陸と新大陸のワインのテクスチュアを基準に語らざるを得ませんが、当社では、「CAPE EUROスタイルとCAPE US／AUZ スタイル」という定義を独自につくり、ワインファンの判断材料のひとつとして、スタイル提案を行っております。

One of the reasons for this is the relatively European character of many of the Cape wines, as evidenced by the style of wine we import. As we have had little opportunity to come into contact with Cape wines, we have no choice but to talk about them based on the textures of wines from the Old and New Continents, but we have created our own definition of 'CAPE EURO style and CAPE US/AUZ style' as one of the criteria for wine lovers. 

フランス、ドイツ、イタリア、チリ、カリフォルニア、オーストラリア、ニュージーランドは、ワイン産地としてあまりにも有名で、酒販店の多くの取扱い量をみても、また、国内のワインスクールでの使用にいたっては、多くがこれらの産地を占めるのが現状です。また、ソムリエ認定者の多くも、欧州ワインの品種やテクスチュアを基本形にしているのではと考えると、日本人のワインに対する味わいの基本形は、ヨーロッパにあるといっても過言ではないと思います。

France, Germany, Italy, Chile, California, Australia and New Zealand are so well known as wine-growing regions that they account for the majority of the wine sold by many liquor stores and used by wine schools in the country. Add to this the fact that many certified sommeliers also use European wine varieties and textures as their basic form, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the basic form of the Japanese taste for wine can be found in Europe.
